Abstract
Consideration must be given to salvage all viable elements when treating burn injuries. However, when the extent of injury is such that healing using conservative treatment is prolonged, surgical intervention will be necessary to improve the quality of scar outcome. The tailoring of the surgical intervention to the injury is outlined in this article. Specifically, epidermal reconstruction using cellular autologous epithelial suspension in combination with traditional skin grafting techniques and other tissue engineering technologies is described.
