Abstract

This thesis emphasises that HM intrinsic variations like circadian rhythm, within-feed variation, and longitudinal variation should be considered when designing HM research to enhance our understanding of6 the association between maternal factors and HM components and their subsequent impact on infant health and body composition. Test weighing to measure infant intake of HM components is not always practical; however, multiple samples across 24 hours will provide more accurate estimations than a single sample. Infant HM intake is one of the significant drivers of infant growth and body composition, and we have shown that GDM and maternal adiposity impact milk production.
