    Abstract

We characterize a proposed metastability measurementsystem in which asynchronous data input and samplingclock frequencies trigger metastability. We develop an equationdescribing the time interval between data and clock inputs forpractical frequencies and show that it takes on discrete values inthe absence of jitter and that the presence of jitter perturbs thesevalues. Finally, we present experimental results supporting ourcharacterization.
