Abstract

The rostering patterns of junior doctors has been influenced by the introduction of mandated safe working hours with conflicting evidence as to the resultant impact on education. This descriptive mixed methods study describes and compares the educational experience of registrars with differing rosters completing a General Paediatrics rotation at a tertiary paediatric hospital in Western Australia. Findings demonstrate the importance of curating a supportive learning environment through distributed rostering patterns, regular feedback and team-based models of after hours care.
