Building your career through teaching

Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference paperChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter provides an opportunity for you to consider your career development in relation to teaching. Distinctions are drawn between effective, expert and excellent teaching performance and what is involved in developing and demonstrating their attainment through the provision of evidence against the teaching criteria specified by your university. Negotiating the university processes and policies is an important aspect of managing your career, and this is highlighted through two case studies on the need for your active participation in building your career with the support of your colleagues and supervisors. The chapter concludes with identifying strategies to build your expertise and professional recognition.
