Abstract
The educational cooperation established between Brazil and Timor-Leste is based on the principle of horizontality and provides for joint action with a view to reducing social inequalities. This principle also presupposes that the actions established within the scope of international collaboration are of a transitory nature, focusing on the solution of specific problems that demand joint action. Within the scope of support to Higher Education, the actions of the Teacher Qualification and Portuguese Language Teaching Program (PQLP) are mainly inserted in the context of the National University Timor Lorosa'e (UNTL) in teaching, research and extension activities. In the specific case of teaching activities, it is assumed that classes are taught in co-teaching in order to contribute to the formation of the current teaching staff, both Brazilian and Timorese. This article aims to reflect on the activities of Brazilian educational cooperation developed in Higher Education in Timor-Leste, asking whether they have contributed to the training and improvement of university professors in both countries. Therefore, a brief theoretical review is presented on the importance of pedagogical training for Higher Education teachers, often relegated to the background in Higher Education Institutions in both Brazil and Timor-Leste. Subsequently, the potential of co-teaching activities in the training of university professors in both countries is highlighted. Finally, it is concluded that the results of this bilateral horizontal cooperation are quite expressive and that co-teaching contributes to the pedagogical training of teachers in both countries. Furthermore, there are gains in the learning of the Portuguese language by Timorese teachers and students.
