Abstract

This study investigates the evolution of secondary school biology teaching in Singapore. It looks at the historical background,recent developments and the issues which are currently of concern to biology teachers. It is a qualitative study, using documentary data and interviews with teachers. The findings show that the education-economy relationship was essential to Singapore's survival as an independent nation and demonstrate the versatility of Singapore's education system through its ability to support the economy. The current concerns of secondary school biology teachers focus on the teaching of biology,new initiatives and curriculum changes in the biology curriculum in Singapore.
