Abstract

Composting is a safe and effective way for treating the organic biodegradable fraction of most waste streams. Composting mathematical models can serve as an essential tool for faster and better process designs, system analysis and operational guidance. However, there is a lack of in-depth research on the simulation for composting process. A theoretical model has been developed to simulate the whole composting process based on the principles of microbiology, mass transfer and biotechnology of composting process. The model can predict the oxygen uptake rate of composting substrate for a given substrate state. The verification and calibration of model and corresponding composting experiments will be our future work.
