Abstract

The Twilight series, Fifty Shades of Grey, the Sookie Stackhouse novels and screen adaption True Blood, are examples of the contemporary Gothic romance narrative, often termed the female Gothic. Synonymous with a female address and use of repetitious plotlines, these Gothic romance narratives have been thoroughly unpacked by decades of feminist research. This thesis examines the significance of these texts and their reception, with a particular focus on what they tell us about contemporary iterations of femininity, feminism and its intersections with class and whiteness.
