note = "Beijing Realism is an (F8.2) Standard exhibition, a curated exhibition by Darren Jorgensen and Tami Xiang of contemporary Chinese art. It includes a small, designer catalogue and is featured as a part of Perth Festival. Beijing Realism includes five artists who are exhibiting a combination of photography and video works, exhibited in multiple rooms at established venue Goolagatup Heathcote Gallery, run by the City of Melville. Goolagatup Heathcote has a track record of innovative, well organised and curated exhibitions. This exhibition aims to address both the Australian public and community members with Chinese (either Mandarin or Cantonese) as their first language by including bi-lingual didactics and catalogue. The City of Melville where the gallery is located has the highest number of Chinese speaking people in the state. Beijing Realism{\textquoteright}s theme addresses the situation of peasant and working Chinese people, and is part of a history of Chinese exhibitions of contemporary art in Australia. It aims to raise awareness of conditions of everyday life in China, a country that is little understood in Australia though it is much represented in the media. The artists featured in the show are mid-career and established. Hu Xiangquian and Li Xiaofei frequently feature in galleries and art festivals around the world.",
