Abstract

There is very limited literature on the strengthening behaviour of Lightweight concrete (LWC) beams. Currently, there are no standard design guidelines and procedures for the strengthened LWC beams. Therefore, in this thesis six experimental studies are conducted to study the strengthening behaviour and shear performance of LWC beams internally reinforced with CFRP sheet stirrups. Moreover, lap splices in confined LWC has also been studied. Experimental results have shown that CFRP has significantly increase the flexural and shear strength of LWC beams. Analytical studies have been conducted and many design guidelines and equations has been recommended for the strengthened LWC beams.
