Abstract

In 2020, the Australian Government established the Dairy Industry Code 1 (the Code). At the same time the Dairy Plan—a private initiative—was released. The Code establishes enforceable rules about the conduct of business relationships between farmers and processors. On the other hand, the Dairy Plan 2 aims to deliver increased profitability, confidence and unity across the industry. This article explores and asks the question, what has, or will the Code and the Dairy Plan achieve for farmers (non-caproate farms) which will achieve the same security and wellbeing farmers in select countries are enjoying. Hence are other measures, which are currently lacking, of more utility?
