Research output: ThesisDoctoral Thesis

Abstract

This thesis investigates smallholder agricultural production systems in Vietnam’s Northern Uplandand Central Highland regions. It analyses the extent of technical efficiency in rice, cashew, and teaproduction, and it examines the determinants of differences in efficiency among farmers. Inefficiencyin rice production is decomposed into transient and persistent components. It also investigatesfarmer preferences for incentives supporting sawlog timber production, identifying considerableheterogeneity across farmers in preferences for support programs. The study generates empiricalevidence to inform the design of policies enhancing crop productivity in Vietnam’s uplands
