After the constrained LMS algorithm is described and different methods for estimating the gradient are briefly reviewed, an analysis of the convergence and the transient behavior of the weight covariance matrix of constrained algorithms used for adaptive antenna array processings are given. The exact expressions for the misadjustments for the real, the complex, and the perturbation case are calculated. The authors then derive the necessary and the sufficient condition for the diagonalization of the covariance matrix of the weights. A comparison is also made of the misadjustment produced by algorithms using different methods for gradient estimation.
