Abstract

Reactions of [Ru(thf)(PPh(3))(2)(eta-C5H5)][PF6] with buta-1,4-diyne in the presence of nucleophiles give alkenylvinylidene or allenylidene complexes; the results are rationalised in terms of the formation of the intermediate trienylidene cation [Ru(C=C=C=CH2)(PPh(3))(2)(eta-C5H5)](+) which undergoes nucleophilic addition at C-gamma; the X-ray structure of the heteroallenylidene [Ru{C=C=CMe(NPh(2))}(PPh(3))(2)(eta-C5H5)][PF6] 2 is determined.
