Abstract

This study addresses how humans can retain their agency in a civil society ordered by big data. It shows that big data can covertly organise our bodies, our homes and our political expression to conform to neo-liberal ideals. Further, this study outlines the conditions necessary for big data to positively reconfigure political and social orders. It is only when big data exists under the conditions of awareness, access and tinkering that covert social ordering can be resisted.
