Older people, in particular grandparents, are increasingly partaking in transnational migration to visit or permanently relocate to be with their transnational families. They play a crucial role in providing support regarding unpaid caregiving such as childcare and domestic management, as well as performing the role of cultural transmitters. However, their roles and contributions to transnational families are undervalued by receiving governments. With the aim of exploring the impact of mobility on late-life course transitions and wellbeing in older age, this dissertation examines the ageing and caregiving experiences of older Vietnamese migrants with a focus on grandparent migrants and grandparent visitors.
