Abstract

Retirement has been identified as one of the major stress points encountered by athletes in the course of their sports careers. This article examines the relationship between the retired elite athletes' re-employment and the elite sports system in China. It discusses the re-employment prospects of retired elite athletes in China. The analysis then focuses on the issue of human capital, looking at the connection between human capital and employment, the Chinese elite sports system and the Chinese elite athletes' human capital, which is closely linked to their chances for re-employment after retiring. © 2014 Taylor and Francis.
