Jean Du Plessis

Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

Sub-specialty curricula are commonplace and tertiary training units are moving to formalized curricular frameworks. The purpose of this study was to answer the question “what principles underpin the education and training of postgraduate trainees in neonatal medicine?” The study is a descriptive investigation using qualitative methodology. Philosophies of learning, learning models, competency and assessment strategies, international curricula, national and local practices were reviewed. The findings were used to document a formal curricular framework for neonatal training in WA. This thesis and curricular framework may be used to assist other neonatal units to develop their own curricular frameworks.
