Abstract

his chapter advances that academic disciplines exhibit their own cultures, which may lead to intercultural challenges for interdisciplinary researchers conducting fieldwork. Drawing from social anthropologist Agar’s ‘interpretive frame’ and the accumulated experiences of six scholars conducting field research in Bulgaria, Germany, Myanmar and the US, across more then ten academic disciplines/subject areas, the chapter analyses how, and why, aforesaid challenges may hamper the prospect of a successful field-study. The chapter provides practical recommendations concerning how to prepare, and potentially alleviate, such challenges.
