Abstract
This study, supported by the King Sejong Institute Foundation, aimes at developing a professional development framework for Korean as a Foreign Language teachers employed in over 200 King Sejong Institute schools around the world.
The study is divided into three parts. Part one offers a quantitative overview of the current state of the teaching force working in Sejong Institutes, and an analysis of teacher development programs in place for teachers of other languages. Part two creates a taxonomy of Korean language teacher tasks with specific reference to the King Sejong Institute environment. Part three presents the design of a professional development framework grounded on tasks required to language teachers, and links this framework to career advancement steps within the structure of the King Sejong Institutes.
