Abstract

The global digital media landscape has changed dramatically since the turn of the century. Concern for young people in light of the impact of these changes has been evident in political and social debates across the world. Since its establishment, media education has endured as a way to equip young people to flourish in this changing landscape and to become critical and ethical citizens. This thesis provides the first comprehensive study of secondary school media curricula in Western Australia for the period 1974 to 2024, including in relation to its development as an ATAR subject
