A simulation study on the thermal decomposition of hydrogen sulfide in a membrane reactor

Abstract

The thermal decomposition of hydrogen sulfide to produce hydrogen and sulfur was investigated in palladium and ceramic membrane reactors using isothermal, one-dimensional models. The characteristic features of the reactors were evaluated in terms of dimensionless parameters relating the reaction coefficients, reactor geometry, membrane properties and operating conditions. The analysis of the results provided guidelines to define the system boundaries, fix the design parameters and identify the areas of further developments.
