Abstract

The focus of this thesis is to improve the profitability and sustainability of mixed enterprise farm businesses through optimal livestock management. Previous research in this area has frequently been conducted using models with significant limitations and oversimplifications, leading to gaps in our understanding. To address this, we develop a new farm model called AFO, that overcomes many limitations of prior models. Using AFO, the thesis shows the importance of considering weather uncertainty for optimal farm management and provides practical insights into short-term tactical livestock management, demonstrating that adjustments in response to weather conditions can significantly improve farm profit.
