Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate a process from which firearm data and intelligence can be developed from open source material and images. The continuing conflict in Syria and Iraq regularly show that militias in these areas display both ingenuity and skill in the design and continued production of weapons. By exploring the ability to extract and group visually similar images from multiple sources, it is possible to understand the design and determine the origin of such
conflict weapons.
