Abstract

3D printing is evolving into a standard tool for prototyping optical components for application in the terahertz range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Large optical area (centimeter-scale) Fabry-Perot transmission filters have been 3D printed with polylactic acid (PLA) using the most common and affordable 3D printer. Terahertz transmission measurements for two demonstrated filter designs realised to target optimisation of either signal transmission or spectral filter performance show agreement with simulated response in operating spectral band of 0.3 THz - 0.75 THz and indicate that the achieved level of performance can be adequate for many applications harnessing the terahertz spectral range.
