Abstract
A summary of six 2019 exhibitions, in Hong Kong, Sydney, Perth and Yinchuan, that have science fictional themes. The essay argues that these exhibitions are not future oriented but retro as they represent the futures imagined by the past. Ironically, however, the future has turned out to look like the future imagined by the 1980s, with the paranoid themes of corporate power and surveillance coming into being in Australia, China and Hong Kong today.
