Abstract
This paper analyzes the construction of Robin Crusoe's selfhood in Daniel Defoe's novel from a post-colonial perspective. From the aspect of history of materiality and technology, the short paper argues that Crusoe survived on the island not only for his unbelievable strong will bestowed by Defoe, but also for the three "weapons" that he brought along from the industrial world，namely，gunpowder, telescope and Christianity．Those three "weapons" has not just made Crusoe's survival on a "wild" island possible but also helped elevate his position as a "master" later when he encountered with Friday.
