Abstract

Magnetorheological elastomers are a couple of composite materials, mainly composed of magnetic particles and elastic polymer matrix. Different from magnetorheological fluids, MRE as a group of smart materials, with the advantages of unease settlement, stable performance, reversible control, swift response, etc. There are broad applications in the field of oil drilling. Isotropic and anisotropic MRE based on natural rubber were prepared with different contents of magnetic particles and also the magnetic rheological properties, oil resistance, physical and mechanical properties of the samples were analyzed. The results showed that the magneto-induced effect, the crosslinking density, thermal stability and oil resistance were improved, during the content of iron particles increased, but the mechanical properties declined slightly. When the iron particle weight fraction is 50% and the applied magnetic field was above 500 mT, the absolute magneto-induced effect can reach 0.61 MPa, and the relative value was 26.87%.
