Commissioning, recording, and performing new works for classical guitar quartet inspired by the WA landscape

Project Details

Description

Much of the Australian guitar repertoire is focused around landscapes, but almost all existing works are inspired by locations in the Eastern States of the country. This project seeks to rectify the underrepresentation of Western Australian culture and landscape in the Australian guitar music canon through the commission, recording and performance of new works for classical guitar quartet.

Prominent Australian composer Robert Davidson and emerging composers Lydia Gardiner and Jeremy Poole-Johnson will each write works inspired by locations in WA. The new works will be premiered by the Perth Guitar Quartet in a concert at the 2023 Perth International Classical Guitar Festival, and recorded for commercial CD release.
