Museum of Transport 1st Accesit

Prize: Award

Description

The Design has been awarded the 1st Accesit in an International Competition organised by the Madrid Institute of Architects COAM, and the Transport department of Madrid. The Museum emerges as an opportunity to address the neighborhood's connection with the new "Madrid Rio" park.
Constructing a new building with a 100-meter facade to house the museum could pose an obstacle. We want to transform this challenge into an opportunity. EMT (Madrid's public transport company) can capitalize on the building's location as the new gateway to Madrid Rio in the Mahou-Calderón area.
A striking architectural gesture, two planes detaching from one another, creates an urban gateway that serves as access to the Museum and the park, opening the possibility of establishing a physical and visual connection with the river. The large urban void created allows for the organization of outdoor exhibitions and events.
