Chancellor’s Medal

A Chancellor's Medal is awarded for an outstanding contribution, or sustained
contributions, to the University, such as to enable the University to discharge its
teaching, research and community responsibilities more effectively.
The Chancellor’s Medal is presented by the Vice-Chancellor or nominee.

Adjunct Professor Dr Raj Kurup

Citation

Dr Raj Kurup is a multi-award-winning CEO, board member and environmental
engineer. Raj was named as Australian Professional Environmental Engineer of
2021, the WA Professional Engineer of the year 2020, Water Professional of the
Year 2017, one of Australia's top 30 Innovative Engineers for 2017 and 2019,
AWA research innovation award winner from 2017 to 2019, WA's Best Engineer
by WA Business News in 2003.

Raj has an ongoing strong relationship with UWA, both as an adjunct professor
and an elected member of the Convocation Council. He is a champion of
the Grand Challenges.

In addition to his strong academic interest in engineering, Raj is passionate in
coaching students and graduates, through a structured job ready program,
and has so far trained over 60 students.

Raj has authored over 60 publications including three books and developed
innovative processes for industrial effluent treatment, nutrient removal and
waste to energy systems and has provided keynote addresses for several
international conferences. He has three patents to his credit.
