Dr Yiran Liu is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering, School of Engineering at the University of Western Australia (UWA) since 2023, previously she was a Postdoctoral Fellow (2021-2023) at University of New South Wales (UNSW). She received her BEng. (2014) and MEng. (2017) degrees from the University of Science and Technology Beijing, and PhD degree from UNSW in 2021.
Dr. Yiran Liu's research encompasses two primary areas of focus:
Modelling and Optimisation of Low-Carbon Mineral Processing:
Dr. Liu's work involves numerical simulation, machine learning and experiments for mineral processing, targeting iron, nickel, and lithium extraction. This includes the advanced computational modelling for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of mineral processing operations; the optimisation of fossil fuel utilisation, such as coal and coke; and the design and integration of renewable fuels, such as biomass and hydrogen, to promote sustainable practices in mineral processing.
Reutilisation and Recovery of Solid Waste:
Dr. Liu's research is centred around the reutilisation and recovery of e-waste. As a significant source of valuable metals, e-waste poses both environmental challenges and opportunities for resource recovery. This research aims to efficiently handle multiple metals from discarded electronic devices with smelting pyrometallurgy, contributing to the sustainable management of electronic waste and reducing the environmental impact associated with its disposal.
For prospective PhD students: Motivated students are welcome for application with a passion for advancing the fields of mineral processing optimisation and sustainable waste management.
