Biography

Vyv is a senior research technician at the Marine Futures Lab, where he splits his time between fieldwork, data curation, managing staff workflow, and identifying and analysing marine species from BRUVs. In addition to his work with BRUVs, Vyv has experience with a range of other marine research techniques, including:

 

Drone surveys (plastic sampling and marine megafauna observation).

 

Catch and release fishing, used to measure size and collect tissue samples from selected species.

 

Seabed monitoring, using both Dropcams and Towed Video.

 

Seabird surveys from both stationary and moving vessels.

 

Underwater Visual Census (tropical fishes), using SCUBA.

 

eDNA collection and filtration.

 

Seafood sampling (DNA metabarcoding) to investigate seafood mislabelling.
