Gilly is a clinical academic who brings a wealth of clinical expertise from critical care nursing and hospital management, to the academic setting. This clinical expertise has underpinned her capacity to support and drive several hospitals through clinical licensing and standards accreditation processes, including the facility refurbishment leading to relicensing of the University of Western Australia Podiatric Surgery Day Hospital.
Her ability to view the structure and overlapping intricacies of academic and clinical requisites is central to the quality and depth of clinical and academic accreditation processes, with her capacity to explain how the various parts overlap and fit, making her a dynamic editor in the final stages of writing accreditation documents, as well as ensuring true academic governance is articulated to accreditation organisations.
Her depth of knowledge about academic structures, pedagogy, assessment, and progression affords her the capacity to fit into multiple clinical academic roles, including accreditation for new and revised degree programs and to drive excellence, through encouragement, engagement, and education.
Gilly's passion for education extends to her research engagement where she is often found supporting and supervising student research projects or those supervisors new to research. This passion was utilised fully in her appointment to the Edith Cowan University Human Research Ethics Committee for five years.
