Biography

Viv Westbrook is a Cultural Historian whose research interests intersect with a wide range of Arts, Humanities and Science disciplines.

She received her Ph.D. in Reformation Biblical and Cultural Translation from the University of Manchester (1998), her M.Phil. in Renaissance Paratext (1995) and her M.Ed. in Educational Psychology (2000). She received her M.A. in Screenwriting from the University of London and The London Film School (2008). She holds a range of degree-level qualifications, including Business Studies (1984), Literary Studies (1992), English Literature and Language (1994), Psychology (2000) and Teaching English as a Foreign Language (2018).

She has received thirty-three awards, bursaries, fellowships, consultancies and visiting professorships from twenty-six international institutions in the U.K., Europe, USA, Taiwan, Kazakhstan and Australia.

She has presented extensively on representation across ages, cultures and media and published seventeen peer-reviewed articles (six on-line), thirteen peer-reviewed chapters, two journal editions and five peer-reviewed books, as well as all eighteen scripts for the popular Teaching Business English television series which repeatedly aired in China and Taiwan.

Her current focus is on Critical Humour Studies and Environmental Humanities. She is General Editor of two Routledge series: Humour in Literature and Culture, and Oceans, Seas and Shorelines: a natural and cultural environmental history.
