Biography
Dr Vidya Navaratnam is a respiratory physician with an interest in interstitial lung disease (ILD), pulmonary hypertension and lung transplantation as well as a trained epidemiologist. Her undergraduate medical degree is from the University of Nottingham and she started her postgraduate medical training in the East Midlands in the UK. This is where she recognised the unmet burden from ILD. She undertook a PhD in IPF epidmiology with Professor Richard Hubbard at the University of Nottingham and consolidated her epidemiology training by completing the Masters in Epidemiology at the prestigious London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she was awarded a distinction. She then went back to clinical work to complete her clinical training to become a respiratory physician, whilst persuing post-doctoral research opportunities.
She moved to Australia in 2018 to undertake an NIHR Postdoctoral Research Fellowship with Prof Anne Chang at Menzies School for Health Research. She then completed a two year clinical fellowship in Lung Transplantation, Pulmonary Hypertension and Interstitial Lung Disease at The Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane.
Dr Navaratnam moved to Perth in January 2023 to take up a Respiratory Consultant position at Sir Charles Gardiner Hospital. She is Principal Investigator for industry sponsored and investigator led studies at the Institute for Respiratory Health. She also established and leads the Respiratory Epidemiology research group at the Institute for Respiratory Health.
