Research interests
Tanya Fitzgerald's research interests primarily focus on historical and contemporary understandings of gender, leadership and policy in higher education. Current projects include a history of scholarly women, academic diplomacy, and the International Federation of University Women. Recent works include the Handbook of Historical Studies in Education (Springer, 2020) and Historical Perspectives on Teacher Preparation in Aotearoa New Zealand (Emerald, 2019, with Sally Knipe). Tanya is co-editor of the Bloomsbury Academic series Perspectives on Leadership in Higher Education (with Helen M Gunter and Jon Nixon). In addition, she serves on a number of international editorial boards and has held the editorship of journals such as History of Education Review (2002-2012) and Journal of Educational Administration and History (2008-2017, with Helen M Gunter).
Biography
Tanya Fitzgerald is Professor of Higher Education, a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and Dean of the Graduate School of Education at the University of Western Australia. Tanya has held leadership roles in universities in New Zealand, England and Australia. Her research focuses on historical and contemporary understandings of gender, leadership and policy in higher education
