Biography

Sugat Bajracharya is a PhD candidate pursuing a doctoral degree in Environmental Economics at the School of Agriculture and Environment, The University of Western Australia (UWA). He has a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois, USA and a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Economics from Linfield University, McMinnville, Oregon, USA.

Prior to joining UWA, He worked as an Economic and Data Analyst at the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), an intergovernmental organization serving eight regional countries of the Hindu Kush Himalaya region (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan). During almost a decade long tenure at ICIMOD, he was involved with various projects involving different thematic areas in atmosphere, water and livelihoods, exploring science and society linkages, socioeconomic and livelihood impacts in the mountain areas of the HKH region. Before joining ICIMOD, he has had a brief 4-year stint of working in impact evaluation projects for Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL South Asia, MIT) and The World Bank Group as a Research Associate/Consultant. In addition to this research experience, he has also held mentoring and assistantship positions for 3 years – as a graduate teaching assistant during his Master of Art degree in Economics at Eastern Illinois University and as a peer advisor during undergraduate study in Linfield University.
