Personal profile


I am a demographer by training and works in the field of population dynamics, public health and regional developmental issues in developing countries in general and India in particular. Before joining as a Research Fellow at Australia India Institute (AII) and UWA Public Policy Institute in the University of Western Australia, I am an Assistant Professor in Population Studies at the Centre for the Studies in Regional Development (CSRD), School of Social Sciences (SSS), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. I am a visiting faculty at the University of Gottingen, Germany. I have six years of experience in teaching and M.Phil & PhD supervision in the field of demography, public health and development studies. I have guided 5 M.Phil and 4 PhD theses. Currently guiding 9 PhD students at the JNU. I have involved in several major projects funded by both national and international organizations. My current research interest includes population dynamics and its implications for development, public health and nutritional inequalities and its social determinants, demographics of gender. I have published more than 70 journal articles in highly reputed international journals, three reports and co-authored a book.
