Biography

Dr. Azimi is a highly skilled professional with specialty training in oral and maxillofacial diseases. She completed her PhD at the University of Western Australia (UWA), focusing on risk factors and determinants of head and neck cancer. Dr. Azimi has also proactively enhanced her research skills through various training seminars and online courses, including good clinical practice, grant writing, consumer involvement, statistics, and project management.

As an Honorary Research Fellow of the International Research Collaborative - Oral Health and Equity at UWA, Dr. Azimi is affiliated with a renowned oral health research and development group with a global reputation for addressing oral health disparities. She has made significant contributions as a postdoctoral researcher, where she initiated a Tele-dental screening sub-project in the ORIGINS Project (a large pregnancy cohort in WA). Collaborating with TKI, CSIRO, and UWA, this study received funding through the WA Health Department Future Health Research and Innovation Fund.

Dr. Azimi's dedication to research extends to her role as a researcher at TKI, where she examined dental hospitalisations of children with intellectual disabilities and autism. Additionally, she worked as a data analyst and research consultant at Brightwater Care Group Research Centre. At Brightwater, she was involved in a project evaluating the physical and mental health of aged care residents in WA during COVID-19. Furthermore, Dr. Azimi initiated oral health plans for patients with acquired brain injuries and completed phase one of this project on dental hospitalisation of the ABI cohort (+25 years) by injury phase. Recently, Dr. Azimi joined the Clinical Research Centre at NMHS Mental Health, where she is involved in various types of research and data analysis.
