Personal profile

Biography

Samantha Stiles is an epidemiologist, with a particular focus on cardiovascular disease. Her research spans linked health data analysis, primary health care research, passive surveillance, and registry design.

She is currently a Research Fellow within the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Research Centre at The University of Western Australia and a member of the Cardiology Population Health Lab for the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Centre (UWA Hub). Her research focuses on using multi-jurisdictional linked health data to measure cardiovascular disease burden and the development of standardised clinical indicators to support more effective disease monitoring.

She also collaborates on several projects in primary health care, including initiatives to establish a passive surveillance system for monitoring Strep A related diseases (in partnership with The Kid's Institute) and the development of a primary care index for monitoring housing associated infectious disease, as part of the NHMRC-funded STARFISH program.

Her broader expertise was informed by her PhD, which utilised linked health data to investigate anaphylaxis epidemiology, generating critical evidence to strengthen reporting and management across the health system. She also works with the National Allergy Council on implementation research supporting public health initiatives, including the translation of research evidence into policy and clinical guidelines and the development of a National Anaphylaxis Reporting System.
