Biography

Consultant Psychiatrist at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH), in the area of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Emergency Psychiatry, and a Lead Clinician for the Neuromodulation unit at the SCGH Day Procedure Unit. Adjunct Senior Clinical Lecturer at the School of Psychiatry & Clinical Neurosciences University of Western Australia. Chair of the Royal Australian And New Zealand College of Psychiatrists' Binational Committee for the Section of Electroconvulsive Therapy and Neurostimulation. A qualified psychiatrist trained in Western Australia and Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, and International Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

Roles and responsibilities

In addition the role as clinician in the areas of Consultation Liaison, Neuropsychiatry, Emergency Psychiatry. I have clinical and research interest in the treatment resistant mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, psychopharmacology, assessment and diagnosis of mental health issues in the medically ill, neuropsychiatric complications of neurological disorders with particular interest in Neuromodulation techniques (their efficacy and side effects) including Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) and transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS), their efficacy and side effects.

Future research

Future Research in the areas of Neuromodulation techniques, ECT, rTMS, tDCS.
Electrodes Placement in ECT, Comparison study using PET scan between, Left Anterior Right Temporal (LART) , Right Unilateral Ultra Brief (RUL UB) & Bitemporal (BT) electrodes placement.
Transition of patients on Maintenance Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) to transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS)

An audit of mental health presentations to the Emergency Department in Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and an evaluation of the Mental Health Observation Area

Teaching overview

1-Courses in Country WA (Geraldton, Northam, Esperance) to emergency physicians and GPs about Emergency Psychiatry & the Management of violence and aggression.
2- Regular Lectures to first year trainee psychiatrist as part of Western Australian Postgraduate Training in Psychiatry.
3- Supervising UWA students & University of Noter Dame of Australia during their clinical placements in areas of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Emergency Psychiatry & ECT.
4- Supervising international Elective Students, and students from other Australian States.
5- Supervising Trainee Psychiatrists during their placements in CL, Emergency, & ECT rotations and rosters.
