Ray Lam completed a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours at Curtin University followed by a Bachelor of Dental Science with Honours, Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Clinical Dentistry at The University of Western Australia. He is a Fellow and Member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons by examination in general dentistry and orthodontics respectively. Ray also achieved certification with the Australasian Orthodontic Board.

He was awarded numerous prizes and awards during his university studies. Ray graduated with honours and dux of his graduating year in dentistry winning the Wynn Needman Memorial prize and the Pierre Fauchard Undergraduate Award of Merit. For his PhD, he was awarded an Australian Postgraduate Award with his thesis containing 11 published papers. In orthodontics, he was awarded the Headley-Cook award for the most outstanding research dissertation. He also won the Australasian Orthodontic Society Foundation for Research and Education Best Poster and the Australasian Begg Society of Orthodontics Best Presentation as an orthodontic resident. More recently, he is the recipient of the Milton Sims Medal, awarded to the most meritorious orthodontic graduate in Australia and New Zealand during 2020-2022 based on the highest achievements in academic, research and clinical excellence.

Ray spends his time between private practice and at The University of Western Australia as a Senior Lecturer in teaching and research. He is a member of many dental and orthodontic societies including the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons where he was past Regional President of the WA branch. He is also a frequent reviewer for many orthodontic and dentistry journals and is currently writing a textbook on Growth and Development for Orthodontists.

During his spare time, he enjoys jogging, racquet sports, watching movies and spending time with his family. In what seems like another life ‘’back in the day’’, Ray was training to be an elite badminton player and is a former Grade A Reserve State Champion.
