Biography

Ratih Kabinawa is a doctoral candidate in International Relations and Asian Studies in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Western Australia.

Ratih's doctoral research project is entitled Engaging Non-State Actors: The Transnational Politics of Taiwan's Foreign Policy in Southeast Asia. This research addresses two main questions why and how has the Taiwanese government incorporated transnational actors into its foreign policy, and in what ways are these transnational actors useful in carrying out Taiwan's foreign policy agenda in Southeast Asia. Ratih's research project is supervised by Associate Professor Jie Chen and David Bourchier.

Ratih was a recipient of the Taiwan Ministry of Education Scholarship (2011-2013) which funded her Master's degree in the Institute of China and Asia Pacific Studies at the National Sun Yat-sen University Republic of China (Taiwan). Her Master's thesis entitled Economic and Socio-Cultural Relations between Indonesia and Taiwan: An Indonesian Perspective was published in the Journal of ASEAN Studies (2013). Her PhD is funded by the Australia Awards Scholarship (2019-2023). She is a regular contributor to Taiwan Insight - an online magazine of the Taiwan Studies Programme at the University of Nottingham, UK.
