Raffaele joined the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems in 2013 as a PhD student, under the supervision of Dr. Britta Bienen. The final thesis Predicting the foundation performance of offshore jack-up drilling rigs in intermediate soils was submitted in October 2016.
Prior to his Australian experience, Raffaele achieved a bachelor's and master's degree in civil (structural) engineering from the University of Perugia, Italy, between 2006 and 2012. The master's thesis Implementation of a hypoplastic macroelement for shallow foundations was supervised by Prof. Claudio Tamagnini and Dr. Diana Salciarini.
Raffaele's research at the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems aims at offering answers to the many challenges the energy industry faces when it comes to provide solid foundations for offshore structures.
Raffaele is currently involved in the study of suction caisson foundations, a hot topic in light of the growing interest in renewable energy and offshore wind farms. The response of spudcan foundations for jack-up platform is another topic Raffaele has been following closely during and after his PhD.
