Dr Peter Lau is a medical oncologist and clinician-scientist with expertise in melanoma, breast cancer, immuno-oncology and early phase cancer therapeutics. He has more than 10 years of experience across specialist cancer care, translational research, and clinical trial leadership, with a particular interest in advancing novel immunotherapy, targeted therapy and cell-based treatments.

Dr Lau completed an honours degree in immunology (2002) and graduated in Medicine from the University of Queensland in 2007. Subsequently Dr Lau completed postgraduate training at Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, and Royal Perth Hospital. He was then appointed as a consultant medical oncologist in the Melanoma and Skin Unit at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centrein 2016. Here Dr Lau completed a laboratory based PhD investigating CDK4/6 inhibitors in combination with adoptive cell transfer in melanoma, mechanisms of cross resistance of targeted therapy and immunotherapy in melanoma brain metatastases and helped instigate a investigator initated multisite trial: CHARLI. 

Currently Dr Lau is appointed at Harry Perkins Institute for Medical Research in the Melanoma Discovery Laboratory and practices as a medical oncologist at Hollywood Private Hospital.
