Biography

Dr. Comino’s academic career has centred around teaching coordination and education focused roles, as a unit/course coordinator and lecturer, particularly with large undergraduate cohort groups in 1st and 2nd years. Teaching intensive roles have mainly focused on core chemistry and food chemistry related subjects for undergraduate students, at UQ (The University of Queensland), CQU (Central Queensland University), and currently at UWA (University of Western Australia). Dr. Comino has also taught postgraduate masters students at UQ for food chemistry, and Endeavour College for nutritional physiology (honours 3rd Year).

 

Endeavour College is a Queensland tertiary education institution concentrating on natural health industries in naturopathy and nutrition. Dr. Comino was Head of Department (Nutrition and Dietetics), and integrated and lead the implementation of the digital student education platforms, and added the diploma and certificate courses to the already existing bachelor programs.

 

Dr. Comino gained her PhD (2014) under the supervision of Professor Mike Gidley (now retired), who was the Professor and Director of the Centre for Nutrition and Food Sciences (CNAFS) at the University of Queensland, Australia. Dr. Comino’s research has been integral with the characterization of dietary fibre, and its processing effects using in vitro studies.

Research interests include dietary fibre aspects of colonic and gut health, and nutrition.
