Biography

Parmida Ghorbanian is a PhD student at the University of Western Australia.  Her work focuses on bridging the gap between deep learning and medical imaging, improving diagnostic outcomes for cardiovascular disease. Her research applies various deep learning techniques to retinal polarization sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) images to generate meaningful predictions about cardiovascular disease states. 

Parmida was awarded the Novel Heart Disease Imaging Through AI HDR Scholarship and has since won numerous awards for her work, including:

  • Student Researcher award at the 2024 WACRA Heart-to-vessel showcase
  • Winner of the 2024 South Metropolitan Health Service 3-Minute Project Competition.
  • UWA Visualise Your Thesis (VYT) runner up.
