Research

I am the Jim Buckee Fellow in Astrophysics and Research Associate at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR) at the University of Western Australia.

My research lies at the intersection of theory and observations where I primarily focus on using cosmological simulations to investigate the role supermassive black holes play in galaxy evolution. In particular, I study the methods by which black holes grow and launch radio jets and how they impact the growth and evolution of the host galaxy they inhabit as well as galaxy populations as a whole.

I assess the most accurate ways to make comparisons and predictions of radio galaxies observed with next-generation SKA radio surveys such as MIGHTEE and LoTSS of which I am an active member. In addition, I am a co-chair for the theory working group on the WAVES survey. 

Biography

Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, I obtained my PhD from the University of the Western cape in South Africa on the topic of "Understanding the role of supermassive black holes and AGN in galaxy evolution using cosmological hydrodynamic simulations" under the supervision of Professor Romeel Davé. I went on to pursue a position as Post-doctoral Research Associate at Durham University in the UK within the Institute for Computational Cosmology and Centre for Extragalactic Astronomy before arriving at ICRAR as the Jim Buckee Fellow in Astrophysocs in February 2024 and where I am currently based.
